Sometimes I like checking out a Realtors’ website. I’m not really looking for someone to help me buy a home or anything, I’m just curious if they have a blog. It seems that a majority don’t really have a need for one. The realtor either doesn’t have one on their site, or rarely writes a post. Reflecting on the matter, a realtor understands the value of property, however when it comes to their own ‘online property’ a blog is a resource that some believe isn’t worry their time or effort.

I look at a blog as a parcel of property on their site that needs to be worked on in order to increase the value of the realtors’ brand and website property for both the search engines and potential clients looking for a realtor and either to sell or buy a home.

Now here are 10 reasons why a realtor needs a blog:

1.Writing for prospects. Writing at least one helpful blog post each week gives you a better opportunity to reaching new customers. Be sure to write about topics that can help propects ie. Tips to finding and buying a new home or 10 must-ask questions to ask your realtor.

2. Writing for clients. They have bought from you so it’s easier to sell to them. If they really liked you and your service they well definitely recommend you to someone else. Sending a fresh blog post to a list of established customers is a great way to keep your brand top-of-mind by providing helpful advice and without selling anything.

3. Keeping your site relevant. Let’s face it, Google loves content. They also like fresh content and content that people read. If Google notices that you are writing a blog post with content that people are sharing and reading, you will be rewarded.

4. Another marketing tool. That great thing about blogging is that you are the owner of the content. And that means you can use that content anywhere you want. You can expand on it via other blog posts. You can link it to other pages on your site. And you can definitely use it as a marketing tool on other ways to promote your brand like putting together a newsletter or a brochure.

5. Makes you look like a pro. By writing a blog you are taking the time to impart your expertise and over time people will start to notice. Customers will look at you as a well rounded professional with their interest at heart. You obviously know what you are talking about so why not share that knowledge? That goes a long way in educating others about real estate and your brand before they contact you.

“By establishing your brand as one that is helpful and dedicated to educating current and future home-owners (via your blog) you are giving yourself unique opportunities to connect to more potential buyers.”

6. It’s free. One of the oldest clichés out there is: nothing in life is for free. Well one of the best and simplest online marketing tools is sitting right under your nose waiting to be used. And it’s free. Utilize your blog space even if its a quick post talking about a recent experience about selling a house.

7. Content for social media. Posting a listing via social media is a necessary evil, but one that gets long in the tooth especially if you have no other content to post. Wouldn’t it be refreshing to post content that you have written without selling anything? Your readers might start to tune you in more if you post non-sell type content on social media. Another thing is you can post that piece of content several times over a long period making it reaches others who have missed it the first time around.

8. Separate yourself from other realtors. As I said before, many realtors aren’t blogging, so if you, that means you will be only a handful that are doing it. That is something special that will lend well to the development of your brand.

9. It will help you become a better communicator. Writing the first few posts will probably be tough. And fitting in the time to write something might even be a tougher task. But the good news is that it will get easier. You might struggle with ideas at first, but when you get going you will notice your writing will get better as well as the ideas will pop out. After all, you are a realtor and have gone through a few experiences–some good and some not so good. That will be fuel for your blogs. And ultimately, it will make you a better communicator.

10. Can lead to other business opportunities. A realtor knows that being successful is more than a fulltime job. It is a life-commitment. Now imagine extending your realtor experience to other entrepreneurial endeavours such as holding seminars for let’s say first-time home owners! By establishing your brand as one that is helpful and dedicated to educating current and future home-owners (via your blog) you are giving yourself unique opportunities to connect to more potential buyers. Think of your blog as another business entity under your brand-umbrella!
