Kijiji is a free online marketing resource

Kijiji is one of those sites that we sometimes use to try to sell something or find a job. But it’s a website that’s more than that. When used with consistent frequency it can become a powerful weapon in your inbound marketing arsenal.

It’s also free.

The only kicker is that you must up-date your ad  regularly through the day in order to keep it on the first page and for prospects to have a chance to see what you are offering.

1. Write a decent ad post. Don’t write too much. Write clearly what you are offering and how it will fix someone’s problem.

2. Get to the point. Note what you are offering right off the bat. For example, if you’re a plumber write a short list of problems that a person is likely to encounter such as a clogged toilet or leaky facet. And state what is the typical fix time for each of those most-common problems.

3. Include a logo of your company or an image.  Ads with images tend to get a better response from prospects. As Kijiji notes in their How to Post an effective Ad page 55% posts with images are viewed more than one’s without images.

4. Include various types of contact information. That means a phone number, email address, business address and an alternate phone number.

5. Offer something that your competitor can’t. For example, if you can help them within 2 hours. Or you can offer a great referral bonus. Be sure to read your competitor’s posts first to see how you can differentiate from them.

6. Try two different ads. Write two different ads and see which one works better. This process is known as A/B testing. Use the one with the better views of the two.

7. Frequently update your post every few hours. That means deleting the post and reposting it every 2 hours or so during the day over an 8-10 hour period. This may be a hassle, but being top-of-mind especially for a site like Kijiji is essential in get customers especially if you trying to generate leads for your newly established business.

8. Keep posting. Kijiji’s free ad posting is always a great go-to marketing option for your small business. Even if you see your business growing from generating leads via Kijiji never fully abandon it. Getting new leads is at the heart of expending your business.

If you are a small business you can certainly use this online marketing method. This is especially a great option for small businesses that are starting out and are on a shoe string budget. Kijiji linked with with other online marketing strategies like social media can form a low-budget, yet strong presence for your business on the internet.

In my experience I recommend utilizing Kijiji especially if you have a service like a trade like carpentry, plumbing, landscaping, or snow-removal. People tend to go straight to Kijiji for trade-type services when they have a problem that needs solving around the house or a bigger project like landscaping. Kijiji is an awesome and free way to generating leads and business when your small business is just starting out.

Remember before posting on Kijiji read their policies as well as information on managing your account and additional features including paid ads. If you have some more money in your budget to feature your ad by all means do so!
